Statistical Analysis Versus Protocol/Policy

Others are often using various types of statistical analysis. To work optimally, they must accept and analyze all messages (run hundreds of thousands of tests on each message, add up the variable scores, and determine if certain thresholds are exceeded), then make a guess (based on some kind of past performance) as to whether or not the message is spam. MERCMAIL uses simple protocol and policy tests (yes or no results), allowing us to reject more spam before the message is sent, than competitors reject overall — all without any false positives.

Challenge/Response Versus Suppress/Validate

MERCMAIL was a Challenge/Response (C/R) pioneer in its early days, and though many have jumped on the bandwagon, MERCMAIL has turned C/R on its head. We have reversed the process, so that legitimate senders are never inconvenienced. And this simple process ensures you don't lose false positives to your spam folder, to be ignored, forgotten, and deleted, along with the spam.

Out Of Sight Versus Dealing With It

Others send questionable mail to a spam folder (to be ignored and eventually deleted), or delete it outright. MERCMAIL uses a simple (standard, but optional) notification process to keep potentially important new contacts in front of you, while never allowing the actual message into your inbox until you authorize it, just in case.

Greylisting Versus Speedlisting

Others introduce delays to all email processing in an effort to thwart the armies of spam-bots. MERCMAIL has a feature called Speedlisting which actually fasttracks authorized email through to your inbox.
